Happy Birthday son!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMIE!
I can't believe he's already 8. And in his own words this morning, he's not tiny anymore!
His favorite dinner will be served tonight: ribs with Belgian fries and cucumber (cause I told him he had to pick a vegetable too)

Sensa update week 6

Well, we're on week 2 of Month 2 sprinkles and I have to say I'm feeling the difference with month 1. This is different for all people but I'm struggling a bit more with this month. I'm hungry quicker, have some of my cravings back (which were completely gone with month 1), but I haven't given in to them yet.
Ian's won this week's weight loss! He's doing so good!

Skinny jeans here we come!

I'm not sure how many of you are actually following the weight loss but I want to let you know that if you've struggled with your weight and have tried most (if not all) of the diets out there like me, give Sensa a try.
It really does work and the money you spend on buying it (remember the free trial on top of my blog) you actually get back with eating less. We buy way less food in our house. And if you don't believe me, ask my husband. He was VERY skeptical of this and it works for him too!

Well, I'm off to take care of Jamie, he woke up with a fever today.

Wordless Wednesday

"Yep, this is my pumpkin, I'm tired from looking around for it!"

"Can we go now?"

Febreze Sport: review

Have you got kids who play sports? Are you tired of smelly soccer shoes, smelly sport bags?
Or do you play sports and you're looking for something to eliminate the bad smell in your shoes and/or gym bag?
There's no need for smelly soccer shoes anymore. I was sent a bottle of Febreze Sport Extreme Odor Eliminator in active fresh scent.
About Febreze Sport Extreme Odot Eliminator (from site):
Equipment you can’t wash can be a source of unwanted odors. Eliminate tough sports odors from fabrics like shoes, apparel, and gear with Febreze Extreme Odor Eliminator. It penetrates deep into fabrics and contains scientifically designed X-Sweat™ Technology to neutralize sports odors at the source. It’s perfect for equipment you can’t wash.

We've been using the spray after every soccer practice and soccer game and I do smell the difference! Jamie's shoes are not completely odorless but they are way, way better than before. Jamie actually asks to spray his shoes as he loves the active fresh scent.

This Febreze Sport Extreme ODor Eliminator is a trigger spray that instantly neutralizes the toughest sports odors on shoes, sports gear and apparel - including un-washable shoes, equipment and gym bags.

This spray has our thumbs-up!
Thanks Febreze!

"Disclaimer: I was sent a Febreze Sport gym bad with a water bottle and the odor eliminator spray for this review. This review is written after testing the spray with my son and these are our opinions"

I received an award!

I love it when I get awards and I have to say, it's been a while!
I received the "A Strong Cup Of Coffee" Award from Stay-at-home mom who knew!
I got this award for having a blog good enough to wake you up in the morning and keeping you going all day! Well, that's also what my Latte each morning does for me!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!
Here are 7 blogs that I enjoy reading and enjoy entering super cool giveaways!

Listerine and Reach Oral Care Challenge

I was so happy to be selected by Mom Central as one of the blogs to take part in the Oral Care Challenge by Listerine and Reach!

We all have had cavities in our family (except Abby that is). In the last couple of years we've focused more on dental care and so far so good, no more cavities. With Halloween just around the corner, we've already had discussions which candy we can keep and which we can't.
Also Lisa's Orthodontist each year gives the kids an option to turn in their candy ($1 per pound of candy turned in).

We've received all kinds of products to test out but I think the 2 coolest ones and most effective ones for the kids are the Agent Cool Blue and the Reach Access Flosser.
The Agent Cool Blue is a rinse the kids use before they brush. After the rinse is spit out, whatever blue is left will tell the kids where there's plaque left on their teeth. This one in particular is very effective with my son, who sometimes doesn't brush as good as he should.
We've had problems with flossing in our family. And not just the kids, us as parents haven't been really good at it. We were already using the Reach Flosser, it's just way easier to use and now we floss more often than before.
LISTERINE® AGENT COOL BLUE®

In the packet were a couple of Reach tooth-brushes the kids could select from.
Of course Jamie went for the Batman one and Lisa picked the Wonder grip one. The Wonder grip tooth-brushes are for "hard to reach places" and as Lisa has braces, this tooth-brush is a perfect match for her.

We were using fluoride tablets from the dentist but switched over to the Smart Rinse, Jamie picked the mint shield flavor and Lisa the berry shield.

Ian and myself used the cinnamint and icy mint total care mouthwash, I'm more in favor of the mint taste.
Now with all of these products was a chart where we put down stickers (in the shape of teeth) for every completed day. This chart made it way more fun for the kids to keep track.

Go check out the Listerine Kids website for some tips and tricks on how to make kids' oral care more fun and engaging.
Also here you will find some coupons you can use when buying Listerine Agent Cool Blue and Smart Rinse products!
Also, don't forget to check out the Listerine website for coupons.

"I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Listerine and Reach and received Listerine and Reach products for the Oral Care Challenge and a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate."

Team Mom breaks out the Lab coats: Magnificent Manicure Kit

What a better way to spend a very rainy morning than doing a science experiment with your kids?
Well, with Lisa that is, Abby was just stirring in a little pot of water. No school today so plenty of time to have some fun!

Team Mom sent us the Magnificent Manicure Kit from Elmer's to test out.
Scientific Explorer partnered with UC Berkeley's Great Exploration in Math and Science (GEMS) program to create fun educational science kits like the Magnificent Manicure Kit.
With this kit, kids can learn about cosmetic chemistry while enjoying a magnificent manicure. They can create their own custom-scented lotion, make crystal mud, buff and shine their nails and much more.

Activity #1: Time to get your hands dirty
Lisa started off with making her luxurious, moisturizing soak. Here she learned about crystals and how they soak up water, and when you add bath salt they turn fluid again. She needed to put her hands in the soft crystals to make her hands all soft and smooth.

Activity #2: Soften up
Second step was to make her own lotion by adding coloring and fragrance to a lotion base. She named her lotion: Nature's cream.
I have to say, this lotion really made her hands soft and they smell delicious!
This is the part where Abby wanted to join so we gave her some water to stir, while Lisa was stirring her lotion. (ignore the grin, Abby was saying cheese but not really looking into the camera)

Activity #3: Make it Shine
In this next step Lisa buffed up her nails using the buffing block with 4 sides, from coarsest to finest texture. After using all the sides her nails were really soft and smooth and naturally shiny.

After this step we added nail varnish and voila, the manicure was done!

The booklet has fun facts in it where kids can learn things, and all activity's have questions the kids can answer to make them think about the process.

There's also an activity#4, 5 and 6, where you start all over but then for a pedicure, but Lisa doesn't really like pedicures so she skipped that part.

What Lisa really liked about this kit: being able to see what cool things the crystals did when adding water and salt.
There's nothing that Lisa didn't like except for the feet part but that's cause Lisa doesn't like pedicures, has nothing to do with the kit.

The Magnificent Manicure Kit just picked up the Creative Child Magazine's 2009 Toy of the Year Award in the Educational Toys category.
The kit is available nationwide at Toys "R" Us and www.toysrus.com for $19.99 (age range 8+)
Available now.

problems with writing posts

Ever since I said yes to blogger to upgrade the section where you write your actual posts, I'm having problems with adding my pictures. They add as normal but when you move them to the left and then you want your text to flow around the picture, it just doesn't work, it doesn't look good. I have more problems with spacing. I'm getting space where I don't want space and other things. I'm not happy with this upgrade, don't know how to change back.
Or should I just work with it a little more and figure it out? I don't know.

Anybody else having problems with this?

Child safety: Midwest Monkeys, review & giveaway CONTEST CLOSED

And this is Andrea B.
Andrea, I sent you an email to confirm.

======================================
Do you know the recommended size you should cut your child's food in if your child is under 4 years old?
Let's rephrase that, I thought I cut my pieces small enough until I read the recommendation from the American Academy of Pediatrics which is recognized by the USFDA.

My next sponsor is Midwest Monkeys.
They are the inventors of the Safe Sizer Choking Prevention Plate.

What is the Safe Sizer?
It's a toddler plate with a molded 1/2" inner diameter ring that parents, grandparents, and caregivers can use as a guideline when cutting up food for children under the age of 4. The 1/2" is based on the recommended size limit for firm foods from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and is recognized by the USFDA. They are BPA free and exceed the new, tougher US government standards for phthlates and lead.

Please read the choking prevention document by the American Academy of Pediatrics, it's very informative!
Midwest Monkeys has won loads of awards with the Safe Sizer, here are a few: iParenting Media award, The National Parenting Center seal of Approval 2009, Creative Child Magazine 2009 top choice award and many more.
We were sent the puppy plate from the Animal series.
I thought I cut up Abby's food small enough until I tested it on the plate. It was still too big.
The Safe Sizer diameter is part of the plate and kind of blends in with the colors and animals so it's not distracting on the plate. It's a very good reminder of the danger when you do cut up your food too big.

Midwest Monkeys has 2 collections: the nature series and the animal series

Midwest Monkeys has very generously offered to give away a 3-pack of either the animal series or the nature series.
For a chance to win this, check out Midwest Monkeys and let me know which food could potentially be a choking hazard, this entry is mandatory before any additional entries will count (hint: check out the AAP)

Additional entries:
* let me know which series you like best
* let me know who you want to win this for
* follow my blog
* follow me on twitter
* tweet about the giveaway (once per day, leave tweet link)
* subscribe to my blog (leave email)
* add my button to your blog
* blog about this giveaway, linking back to my blog and Midwest Monkeys (3 entries, leave URL)

The deadline for this giveaway is 11/5/09 midnight PST. The winner will be picked with Random Integer, emailed and announced on this post and on Prizey on the 6th of November.
Giveaway is open to US and Canada.

Thanks Midwest Monkeys!

Sensa update week 5

This week we started on month 2. We had some sprinkles leftover from month 1 so we know we need to sprinkle a bit more this month.
On the forums, some people didn't have as good of results with month 2 sprinkles as month 1. If you think about it, the more you lose the harder it will get to lose more.
We've still lost this week but I think we might need to start exercising to keep it going. I bought the Wii Fit Plus yesterday on Amazon, so when this arrives, we're going to do some exercises too.
Here are the results (sounds like we're nominated for a prize or something) :)

You'll be missed

Before we moved here 5 years ago we had 2 blonde Golden Retrievers called Targa and Shearer (brother and sister). We discovered 1 month before we were moving to the US that Shearer (the male) was sick and wouldn't survive the fight so we had to make a decision to either take Targa and leave Shearer behind or find a family that would take them both.
It's not easy finding a family to take 2 dogs let alone 2 dogs of which one was sick and needed to be on medication for the rest of his life. 1 week before we were moving we found a family with 2 daughters that wanted to take both!!! It couldn't have been a better match!
We kept regular contact and lots of pictures and videos were send to us to see.
Today we got the email that Shearer passed away. He was 12,5 years old and was loved by loads.
We're all very sad and I'm not sure how I'm going to tell my kids.
Shearer, you'll be missed!

Lightning

"Mom!", there's lightning in the microwave!"

Yep, that's what Lisa (my oldest daughter) said at lunch. She was warming up a leftover Naan in the microwave and hadn't taken the Naan out of the tinfoil.
I guess we forgot to tell her she can't use any metal in the microwave.

The microwave still works so I assume no permanent damage was done.

Have a great weekend!

The ruffle jeans are just adorable, lots of people have asked where I got these jeans. Abby's worn them with the Swiss Dot Blouse (we got family pictures taken for our families in England and Belgium, more to follow on that at a later date), and with t-shirts, other shirts. They are just adorable and the great thing about them is that they have an adjustable waist (which I need for Abby)!

I love the detail on the Swiss Dot Blouse, it has jeweled buttons (Abby calls them sparkles) and a wide tie belt. It goes perfectly well with the ruffle jeans.
