Almost back

Oh what a weekend it was. We had a super Thanksgiving with friends, a lot of fun but I was sick (yep, on thanksgiving I had a very bad cold and the headache and throat pain was the worst). I was good most of the day but by 10-ish I was done and just wanted to sleep.
I'm feeling much better, still have a cold but all the other symptoms are gone.

Jamie and my husband decorated the outside of the house with lights on Saturday while Lisa, Abby and myself started the inside. We're almost done.
We had a vent cleaning company come in to clean our vents for the first time since we moved into this house. They found a beer bottle in one of our vent pipes! Well, not left there by us as we don't drink Miller. The kids loved watching them clean out the vents, that was one big vaccuum they used.
Yesterday we picked out a christmas tree and started decorating it, well, Jamie, Abby and my husband did as Lisa and myself went to the movies with friends to see New Moon.
That movie is FANTASTIC!
I'll add some pictures later this week.

So now I'm catching up on email as there's hundreds again, catch up on some washing and then tonight I will add some reviews and giveaways.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and weekend!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Are you kidding me?

That's what Simba is thinking at the moment.
Simba's hungry and Abby has a solution, she's cooking him some food as we speak (or as I type), lots of fries and a cauliflower for Simba (lots of goodies in his bowl)!

Sensa update week 10

Week 10, I can not believe we're already so far in our Sensa adventure.
I can not thank Sensa enough for giving my husband and me this wonderful opportunity to review this product. I've been overweight almost all my life, and this time around, I was actually in the obese area, so it hadn't gotten any better. I kept saying it was the baby weight still on me but after 2,5 years, I can't really use that as an excuse anymore.
I've decided to take responsibility and that's what I'm doing, actually that's what we're both doing.
My husband took the challenge with me and we're both in the same boat.
We keep each other in check.

I'm curious how I will do over the holidays, but I'm confident we'll get through these with not too much damage!

Wordless Wednesday

The photographer had asked Abby how old she was. She kept saying 2 but putting up all 5 fingers so the photographer asked her to show him, and she came over and grabbed his 2 fingers...
See the little bags under her eyes? Of course Abby fell asleep in the car on the way to the photographer...

Crazy about Knex: review

I can not believe how close we are to Christmas. Have you finished all your shopping yet? We're almost done, are going to try to order online on black Friday, nothing better than getting a super deal on something, right?
If you're still looking for something for your kids, have a look in the Knex section.

Abby is crazy about Elmo and she couldn't wait to open the box.
With the Sesame Street Neighborhood Collection Building Sets, children can build their own Sesame Street with Elmo, Cookie Monster and Ernie.
I have to admit that "little" Elmo is very cute with his white uniform and cap. Abby loves the ice cream truck and even makes Elmo "pretend" scoop some ice cream for us. It's adorable!
And this is not all, apparently Elmo must have protective powers cause Abby keeps putting him next to our cat Simba's food bowl, so other cats don't touch his food. Elmo doesn't only drive his ice cream truck in our house, he also is Simba's security person!
This 18-piece building set pairs perfectly with the neighborhood Collection 1-2-3 Brownstone Building set. The box also includes a "Play & Learn"activity sheet with additional building ideas.
The parts in this building set are big and chunky so easy for small hands to handle.

Suggested Price: $9.99
For ages 2-5.
Available at: Target, Wal-Mart & Toys"R"Us.

The second box we received is the K'NEX 400 PC Tub.
Of course Jamie's eyes nearly popped out of his head when he saw this. This Tub has 400 pieces and building ideas for 20 different models. Hours of fun in one box!
With this set kids are not just limited to the models in the book but they can use their imagination to build whatever they are inspired to build.
There's lots of movement in the models, wheels on cars, propellers on airplanes ferris wheel and a merry-go-round spin.
Do you know what else is cool about this set? It works with other brands like Lego. Jamie has lots of Legos and can play with them for hours so now he can expand his building system!
The one this I don't like about K'NEX and Legos for that matter is that these parts go everywhere and I seem to be the one stepping on them but with the Storage Tub, the clean-up is way easier.
All K'NEX are made in the USA.

Suggested price: $20.99
Age range: +7
Available at: Target, Wal-Mart and Toys"R"Us

Now for all you K'NEX builders out there. Are you ready to get creative with K'NEX?
You have the chance to win $1000 worth of K'NEX building Sets and be featured on the KNEX.com website.
How?
All you have to do is make a video that showcases your child's building skills and features your child building with select K'NEX products.*
Be creative, use your imagination, construct your own story- as long as the video features building with K'NEX the possibilities are endless.
The ten best videos will be featured on KNEX.com and 1 winning video will receive $1000 worth of K'NEX toys.
Contest Date: NOV. 4-2009- DEC. 7-2009
* videos must be at least 30 seconds but no longer than 3 mins and must include 1 or more of the following K'NEX products:
  • K'NEX 400 PC Tub
  • K'NEX Sesame Street Building Sets
How to enter:
Simply post the video on your own blog or web site and submit the link along with a completed entry form, including your name, age, email address and phone number to knexvideocontest@knex.com. If you do not have a Web site or blog, submit the video DVD/VHS along with a completed entry form to: Make a K'NEXion Video Contest, K'NEX Brand, L.P., PO Box 700, Hatfield, PA 19440.
Please be sure to include a completed entry form with your name, phone number and email address so that we can notify you if you're a winner.

Thanks Team Mom and K'NEX.

Ever heard of Spread Heads?

The next review is a fun one when you have kids (and actually might be fun without kids too).
I want to talk some more about Spread Heads.

Spread Heads are funny heads you can screw on ketchup, mustard bottles, toothpaste tubes.

We were sent Ketchup Charlie, Mustard Marvin, toothpaste Pete and toothpaste Oscar to test.
Ketchup CharlieMustard MarvinToothpaste PeteToothpaste Oscar
I can not begin to tell you how much my kids loved Charlie and Marvin. Even Abby now loves to dip her hotdog in some mustard followed by ketchup (as the mustard is too spicy).
You can't take these heads seriously, you need to see the fun in them!

Jamie loves his Pete on his toothpaste. Anything to make him brush his teeth better I applaud!
Lisa chose Oscar but her toothpaste tube doesn't fit Oscar so we will buy her one that does fit as she loves Oscar. She says it reminds her of our cat Simba!
Both Oscar and Pete have a paw that will seal the toothpaste so it doesn't dry out.

The only negative thing I can say is that Ketchup Charlie and Mustard Marvin need a regular wash as I don't want the ketchup and mustard to dry up on the bottle but all-in-all, we love them all!

If this review intrigues you enough and you want to find out some more, please check out thespreadheads.com, spread head blog, or follow them on twitter, facebook, my space.
If you're still not sure how they work, please check out the you tube clips.

Thanks Spread Heads for the funny heads, we LOVE them!

mhmmmmm, freshly baked bread...

I think there's nothing better than waking up to the smell of freshly baked bread.
Leslie Loves Veggies is giving away 3 copies of the book: Healthy bread in 5 minutes a day.
As you can guess I entered, I would love to win a copy!
Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day

And another chance to win!

How cool is that? Mark the date in your calendar, you don't want to miss out on this one!

Sensa update week 9

I can't believe we're already on week 9 of Sensa. Time has flown by and I'm so happy we're both doing so well. This week I haven't been drinking as much water as I should have, it just makes me cold so I'm going to switch to caffeine free tea, that should do the trick.
Cold season has hit our household. Abby's had a stomach bug, Ian stayed home from work yesterday (and this doesn't happen often) and Jamie is home today. He's feeling extremely tired but no fever, so we'll see what this turns out to be.

We received our Sensa weight-loss Program book on Monday and have tried the flank steak recipe with the tomato/mango salsa yesterday, it was delicious!
If you're still on the fence in trying Sensa, start with the book, it will explain everything you want and need to know.

Wordless Wednesday

This is my oldest daughter Lisa's photo from the photoshoot.

missing in action

As you can tell I haven't been posting this weekend. Abby has a stomach bug and a fever and she comes first.
I was hoping she was going to be better today, at least she slept good last night but she was sick again this morning, although there was nothing in her little stomach.
The good thing is the fever is down for now.
As I've been saying for a while now there's more reviews/giveaways to come but they have to wait a little while longer.

Kaboost review

Well Abby's almost 2,5 and the highchair we had (Lisa's old highchair) just wasn't doing the trick anymore as she wants to sit on a "big girl" chair.
I'm so happy to share the Kaboost with you.

About Kaboost:
Kaboost is a portable chair booster that raises the height of kitchen and dining room chairs so your child can sit at the table just like a big kid. The Kaboost is for kids ages 20 months to 6 years old and holds up to 300 pounds.
The set-up is super easy, just pull out the arms on the Kaboost and snap them on the chair. The Kaboost fits 4-legged chairs (round or square legs).
The cool thing about the Kaboost is that it has 2 height positions, (4.5" and 3.75") so it grows with your child.

We were sent the green Kaboost and it literally takes seconds to set up! We took our dining room with us from Europe (well the moving company did that is ;). These chairs have a non-standard design and still the Kaboost works and actually makes the chair way more stable!

We've used the Kaboost on our kitchen chairs and dining chairs, super easy and super fast to swap around.

The Kaboost retails for approx.$30 (depending on the store) and can be bought online and in stores. Check out this link to see where you can buy one.

Thanks Kaboost!

Wordless Wednesday

A couple of weeks ago we went to a photographer to get family pictures taken. For the next couple of weeks on Wednesdays I'll show you some pictures of my kids.

Sensa update week 8

Well, I was convinced I was going to start sprinkling month 3 starting tomorrow BUT I lost 2.2 pounds this week! So I'll stay on my month 2 sprinkles till it's time to move onto month 3.
Finally my weight's coming off again. I had been on a bit of a standstill or plateau but I guess I'm on a roll again.
Ian was catching up on me on the battle of the sexes but after this weeks weight loss I'm still in the lead.

Lots of reviews and giveaways to come

I've got lots of catching-up to do.
You'll see a lot of reviews and giveaways coming up from today onwards, well, that is if Abby lets me. I'm already having a break after this post as Abby wants to make pizza in her play-kitchen.
I'll leave you with this Halloween picture, we had a lot of fun. Abby would say:
"Twick o Tweet"

with sadness in my heart

With lots of sadness in my heart I have to tell you that after Shearer died a week and a half ago, now also Targa (his sister) passed away last Sunday. She died from a viral infection, but in my heart I believe she died cause Shearer had passed away. They had never been apart in the 12.5 years.
I am (and forever will be) very grateful for Joop, Romy, Lianne and Inka to take care of Targa and Shearer when we moved to the US and we couldn't take the dogs.
Targa and Shearer were so happy with them and were so loved!!!
