Ok, my kids and myself had the great idea to have a movie night tonight. Normally this involves popcorn, but the kids ate some of their Dutch mini chocolate eggs their dad had brought over from the Netherlands. We got 2 movies, Marley & Me and the chihuahua movie. The kids chose for the Marley movie and the movie is great, actually it's fantastic (it's unbelievable how real this movie is with having kids and work and stuff, I'm not going to say anything else otherwise I'll spoil it).........except the ending is absolutely heartbraking! And I'm not overreacting here. It was horrible, we all cried and sobbed and I haven't cried like this in I can't even remember how long. Well, I for sure have never cried as much with a movie as I did with this one.
Lisa and Jamie went to bed but are really upset. So if you're planning to watch this movie with your kids, don't start watching it at 7:30pm as you really need time to talk to your kids afterwards.
I just let Simba, our cat, in and I'm sure he's going to be cuddled and hugged and kissed lots and lots tomorrow! Actually while I'm typing this Simba went into Jamie's room, Simba sleeps on the big bearpillow under Jamie's desk and Jamie just told Simba he loves him. Oh bless him.
Well, had to get this off my chest.
Goodnight everybody. I need to go watch something cheerful now!

Now I am not so sure I would like to watch that movie if it will make me bawl! :) How sad!
yeah, me neither
TY Ann. I personally love a good tear jerker. I didn't see Ole' Yeller until I was already grown and still cried like an insane woman (food for thought here - like or as?).
Sarah - a good cry is good for soul & body. Go rent the movie, sit down with a bowl of popcorn and a box of tissues, not the lotion kind, and enjoy a good cry. It changes your outlook on life and helps you appreciate what you do have.
no. it's a must see especially for pet lovers. I cried so hard, too. We watched it in the movie theaters and had to go into the mall afterward. Sort of embarassing when our eyes were red and teary.
My wife really ticked me off with this one! I had no clue what it was about, and just saw Owen Wilson on it.

Cool...had a hard day at work. I could go for a comedy tonight.
Starts off funny, enjoying it. Winds up destroying the next two days of my life with the ending.
Please, if anyone is going to watch this make sure you remind people around you that it is in no way going to be a true dramedy.
I just finished reading a dog book and posted on my blog this week some info on the book. If you get a chance read this book as it is amazing. It will make you laugh and cry a bit but the ending is awesome! I read Marley and Me but I guess I should bring a BIG HANKIE with me to the movie even if I know the ending. Thanks for sharing your experience with me.

I agree--this was a great one. I actually went out and bought the dvd yesterday (we are leading parallel lives). It's at least a 10 tissue film, but equally funny as it is sad, no?
My husband and I had the house to ourselves (practically never happens) and we watched "The Reader".

I actually heard how the movie ends and made a concious choice to NOT see it. No thanks... I'm sure it's a beautiful movie, but I can do without the gut wrenching sobs! I get worked up enough at some commercials. This movie would destroy me! ;-)
Cheers, Cindy
We just watched it too and oh my goodness! I really liked how it was about starting out in life though, made me feel good I don't have it all together or am even remotely close to being there yet!
I, too heard that it was really really sad. I want to watch it, but I don't know if I feel like crying lol
Awww that's so sad!
Btw, love your blog.
I heard how the movie ends and my husband and I made the choice NOT to see it. I cry over those stupid animal cruelty commercials. If a break up over that then I know that I could not watch this movie. *sigh*
See, I didn't like Marley & Me, probably cause I thought i was going to see a fun filled family comedy, not doggy died movie. Plus, yes the realism of the film was good, but I don't go to the movies to see a reenactment of my parents marriage. Another detractor for me was that the entire film, this guy is complaining about having a job anyone would like, including me. You get paid to basically blog for a national newspaper.
Sorry for the rank, very nice blog here, but this movie annoyed me and my wife.
oh my! the book will make you cry more. They toned it down in the movie. lol
I haven't seen this movie, but have an idea! I mean, I went into the theater knowing the TITANIC would sink and yet still sat there hysterical.... I'll never let go Jack! http://www.barrharris.org/books_parents.html
here's a link with great resources for you to address the topic of death with kids at any age.
This is exactly why we watch Wall-E over and over and over and over..............
