Both my oldest kids are swimmers so when we go to swim meets we have to make sure they stay hydrated and keep up their energy. This is where Gatorade comes in. Gatorade is as essential for my swimmers as their swimsuits and goggles are. And a bonus is that they actually love to drink this when they're at swim meets.
Gatorade supplies them with the proper amount of fluid, electrolytes and carbohydrates to rapidly put back what they lose in sweat and provides them with the energy they need to keep going.
We've had lots of very hot days this Summer and hopefully there's still a couple more to come before the Fall. For all the coaches and parents out there that are involved in sports, please download the free Gatorade Heat Safety Kit: www.nfl.com/trainingcamp.
For every unique download Gatorade will donate $1 to "Beat the Heat" charities up to $20,000.
Equipment makes a difference: wear light net-type jerseys, t-shirts and shorts, change sweat-soaked clothing, avoid wearing excess clothing, remove helmets when not playing and remember to stay hydrated!
Warning Signs – What to Look For
Without taking precautionary measures, young athletes might experience a heat-related illness. In some cases, they might be unaware they are experiencing this condition and continue practicing. Make sure your child knows the signs of heat-related illness and encourage his/her coach to periodically check players during practice or workouts for the acute warning signs of heat illness, which can include:
Nausea
Headache
Weakness
Fainting
Poor concentration
Flushed skin
Light headedness
Loss of muscle coordination
Fatigue
Vomiting
