vegetables and herbs

The weather hasn't been good this past week, lots of rain, but we did have a break yesterday where we could actually work in the garden. The kids absolutely loved it. We got rid of the sandbox, put soil in there and the kids got to plant tomatoes, peppers, squash, eggplant,...
We added some more veggies and herbs at the front of the house.

But what the kids have been most excited about are the peas we planted! They will grow onto the fence and of course they will take a while, but they've been talking non-stop about their peas.
A friend of mine showed us how to make lettuce baskets and I was so excited after I got home, I bought some more baskets and planted basil, peppers, mint, squash, eggplant in them. I can't wait to see the result, when the baskets are in full bloom.

The first picture, the peppers look kind of limp but I hadn't watered them yet. They looked way happier after they got some water.

Oh I love the basket idea for lettuce! Can you give instructions?
