So we had our first ever garage sale yesterday.
What did I learn?
* Sunday is not the best day for a garage sale
* we originally had the time from 9-12 but extended it to 2
* the kids expected to have lots of money at the end of the day.....
* I didn't realize how much work the pricing, organizing was
end result...

The next garage sale will be at our friends house. She lives next to a busy street and people already stop when she unloads things from her garage.
All in all, we had good weather and I finished my book.

We used to have garage sales when we lived in Studio City. I agree that Saturdays are better than Sundays. Also, we would spread the word around the block about our plans and encourage everyone else to join in. We'd share the cost of putting an ad in the Pennysaver and the work of putting up posters on the major streets around ours. Usually we had good turn outs and everyone made some money. The kids did well selling old toys and books and sometimes had a lemonade stand or sold water bottles. It was definitely more fun to do it with neighbors though--that I do remember.

I heard that garage sales don't do as well because people are using Craigslist instead. You finished your book. That's an achievement!
A friend of mine who lives in the suburbs told me that her secret to successful garage sales was to price the merchandize low. She said her husband makes the mistake of wanting to price items higher, but people who visit garage sales expect to find bargains.
Wow good job, on both finishing the book and surviving the garage sales.
