I could be featured on the Food Network Channel!

I got you going there, didn't I?

I just love my kids (and my husband too of course)!!!
I love to cook but 2 nights ago I wasn't particularly inspired to cook dinner and we had a look in the freezer on something we could cook quick and without a lot of work. So we decided on chicken ravioli (from Costco) and I was going to put together a cheese sauce very quickly.
We had dinner and this is what my kids said" " oh mom, with this sauce you can win any contest on the food network channel!!"
Is that a compliment or what? I have to admit, it was the best cheese sauce I had made so far!
So I want to share the recipe with you. Let me know if you've tried it and liked it.
Well, the recipe doesn't have measurements as I cook to taste. And I have to warn you, you probably shouldn't eat a lot of this sauce if you're on a diet or adjust some of the ingredients to a lighter version.

* butter
* flour
* whole milk
* salt/pepper
* mustard powder
* nutmeg
* heavy whipped cream
* Philadelphia regular cream cheese
* grated parmesan
* grated swiss cheese

Melt some butter in a pan, stir in the flour and let it cook for a minute while stirring (this takes the flour taste out of the flower). Add the whole milk till sauce is nice and creamy. Add salt, pepper, nutmeg, mustard powder to taste. Add in the cream cheese (again to taste, it will melt in the sauce) while stirring. Cook for a minute or 2 while stirring, then add in the parmesan and swiss cheese. If the sauce gets too thick, you can always add some more milk.
And voila, that's the recipe!

Bon appetit!

Seattle, WA, January 2009 – Jump for joy! It’s time to think spring. See Kai Run, popular manufacturer of the perfect first shoe for new walkers, is focusing on fresh silhouettes and colorways for the upcoming spring/summer 2009 collection.

Nicole, I will send you an email to confirm.
=============================================

By now I have to admit I have a couple of weaknesses. Handbags, soft blankets and....kids shoes! (and probably some more...)
I just love looking for cute shoes for Abby. Maybe it's because she's the last and this is my last chance to spoil her with cute little shoes, I don't know.
I had the privilege to review a pair of brown boots from Jack & Lily. I couldn't wait to open the box when it arrived (actually I didn't wait, I had to drop my oldest daughter off at swimming practice and opened the box in the car).

Jack & Lily's specialty footwear is the next step in designer baby shoes.
Made from the finest 'Lamb Touch' leather, the handcrafted slip-ons are the softest baby shoe available today. Specially designed to encourage a baby's development, the beautifully appointed, soft-soled shoes invite babies to discover, touch and smile.

What struck me first was how soft and flexible the boots are. They are so easy to slip on and they can be easily adjusted as they have velcro straps on the side. I love the lining and it's kept Abby's feet nice and warm in this cold weather!
Initially I was unsure about the shape of the boot as it looked like the back was leaning over the sole, but I hadn't adjusted the strap enough. Now they' fit great!!
The boots are non-slip, which is great on our wooden floors.
They are fantastic for playing basketball too!

Jack and Lily is committed to the development of high quality baby footwear and they do a fantastic job!!
They have more than 70 combinations and distinct styles to choose from so plenty to choose from to complement any outfit.

Maybe you're looking for a cute pair for your little girl for Valentine?

Or maybe you're looking for some shoes for your little prince in your life?

There's so many choices and they are all adorable.
Jack & Lily has 2 collections: the original collection and the My shoes collection.
I know you can't wait to find out for yourself so........

One Lucky Winner will receive a pair of Jack and Lily shoes the style of their choice!

NO to CPSIA

Save Handmade! BuyHandmade.org
I pasted this article from the Mammalicious finds blog as it's so clearly written!!
As many of you may or may not know there is a new lead testing law that goes into effect on Feb. 10th, just a few short weeks away! This new law will impact EVERYONE including Mammalicious Finds (no more product reviews and give aways for children's items unless they're certified lead free)!
Please read the following information Courtesy of Chichiboulie (Etsian Artist)
Do you know about the CPSIA? No? Then I ask you to take a few minutes to find out about it.
The CPSIA stands for Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, a new set of laws that will come into effect on 10 February, 2009 and will impact many, many people in a negative way. Make no mistake, this is very real. View it for yourself. If Forbes, the American Library Association and numerous other media are paying attention, perhaps you should too.

How will these new laws affect you? Well, here are a few examples:

To the Parents of Young Students:
Due to the new law, expect to see the cost of school supplies sky rocket. While those paper clips weren't originally intended for your student to use, they will need to be tested now that your 11-year-old needs them for his school project. This law applies to any and all school supplies (textbooks, pencils, crayons, paper, etc.) being used by children under 12.

To the Avid Reader:
Due to the new law, all children's books will be pulled from library and school shelves, as there is no exemption for them. That’s okay though, there's always television. Our children don’t need to learn the love of reading after all.
Article from the American Library Association http://www.wo.ala.org/districtdispatch/?p=1322

To the Lover of All Things Handmade:
Due to the new law, you will now be given a cotton ball and an instruction manual so you can make it yourself since that blanket you originally had your eye on for $50 will now cost you around $1,000 after it's passed testing. It won't even be the one-of-a-kind blanket you were hoping for. Items are destroyed in the testing process making one-of-a-kind items virtually impossible. So that gorgeous hand-knit hat you bought your child this past winter won’t be available next winter.

To the Environmentalist:
Due to the new law, all items in non-compliance will now be dumped into our already overflowing landfills. Imagine not just products from the small business owners, but the Big Box Stores as well. You can't sell it so you must toss it. Or be potentially sued for selling it. You can't even give them away. If you are caught, it is still a violation.

To the Second-Hand Shopper:
Due to the new law, you will now need to spend $20 for that brand new pair of jeans for your 2-year old, rather than shop at the Goodwill for second hand. Many resale shops are eliminating children's items all together to avoid future lawsuits.

To the Entrepreneur:
Due to this new law, you will be forced to adhere to strict testing of your unique products or discontinue to make and/or sell them. Small businesses will be likely to be unable to afford the cost of testing and be forced to close up shop. Due to the current economic state, you'll have to hope for the best when it comes to finding a new job in Corporate America.

To the Antique Toy Collector:

Due to the new law, you'd better start buying now because it's all going to private collection and will no longer be available to purchase. “Because the new rules apply retroactively, toys and clothes already on the shelf will have to be thrown out if they aren't certified as safe.” http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123189645948879745.html

To the American Economy:
Already struggling under an economy that hasn’t been this weak in decades, the American economy will be hit harder with the inevitable loss of jobs and revenues from suppliers, small businesses and consumers. The required testing is far too costly and restrictive for small businesses or individuals to undertake.

To the Worldwide Economy:
Due to this new law, many foreign manufacturers have already pulled out of the US market. You can imagine the impact of this on their businesses.

If you think this is exaggerating, here is a recent article from Forbes
http://www.forbes.com/2009/01/16/cpsia-safety-toys-oped-cx_wo_0116olson.html

And for those of you prepared to be stupefied and boggled, The New Law

Did you know? If this upsets or alarms you, please react.

   Some cool moves!

missing in action

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know I'm still here, I have no time to write any posts (except for this quick one that is!). I'm entering in some giveaways over at the Bloggy Giveaways Quarterly Carnival
Good luck to all, there's so many too enter and not enough time....

shooting some hoops

We decided to walk to the park and shoot some hoops after Lisa and Jamie got out of school. I knew it was cold outside but hadn't realized it was this cold, so it wasn't a long trip outside but we had fun!
Of course Abby was copying her big brother and sister!

Softest blanket ever! Cricket and Monkey!

Thanks for coming by from the Bloggy Giveaways Carnival!

In earlier posts I've been talking about Abby's Mr. Bunny (read here). She falls asleep while rubbing the back label. Well, we have another ritual now, it's not only Mr. Bunny she wants, she also wants her blanky.
It's about this blanky I want to talk to you.
I was send a super soft chocolate/pink chenille blanket by Cricket & Monkey. The same blanket (different color) Tori Spelling got for Liam (I'm a huge Tori fan).

This is a company that focuses on quality products that are not only fun and fashionable but also very practical. And on top of this they make everything here in the United States.
Karen Stein created Cricket & Monkey when her grandson was born and she couldn’t find anything she wanted to buy. She has successfully created a baby line that stands out from the rest.  She is a proud grandmother of two whose nicknames are, what else? Cricket and Monkey.

You really need to have a look around, they don't only have the coolest diaper bags, they also have very nice blankets, play-travel mats, and a lot more. I also love the leopard blanket, see below.

I was so happy when we received the chocolate/pink "bubble dots" blanket. It really is the softest blanket I have and I wish I had known about it when Lisa and Jamie were born. The blanket is 100% polyester and machine washable, which is very important to me as Abby also takes this blanket everywhere.
So now Abby sleeps with this blanket while she's rubbing Mr. Bunny's label.  The below picture was taken this morning just after her morning nap. (notice her holding the label, she does this when she's tired).
The blanket is 28X33 and is big enough for her to sleep under. She sleeps in a sleeping bag and then ends up hugging her Bunny and her blanket.

Karen of Cricket and Monkey has very generously offered a $25 Gift certificate towards any product in her store!!!
Now for a chance to win, you can do any of the following:
* one entry: head on over to Cricket and Monkey, let me know what you would use your $25 on.
* 2nd entry, become a follower of A latte in the morning (current followers, you can also still enter) and let me know in a separate comment.
Deadline for this giveaway is 02/08/09. Winner will be emailed and announced here on the 9th of Feb.
Thanks Karen!!

PLEAAASSSEEEE feed me!!!

Please feed me!!! If Simba, our cat, could talk that's what he would be saying, or let's re-phrase that: screaming.
Simba is obese, yep you heard it right, he's obese. He's been on a diet for at least a year and he's moved from severe obese to "just" obese. I feel so bad for him, I can't really tell him that it's for his own good cause he has no clue, he's still his own happy self!
He still climbs trees, still chases birds and now catches them too (eventhough he has a bell and is obese). He's been on diet food, normal food,...
This is him just 15 minutes ago while I'm writing some posts, just peeking around the corner, letting me know that "yes, he's still waiting patiently for his food, thank you very much".

I'm sure he's getting food from somewhere else too, otherwise he would have lost more weight already. And now him catching birds, is defeating the purpose too. So I'm not sure what to do. Any tips?

Juliet "kweeks"!!

You read it right, Juliet "kweeks".
Remember I reviewed Hamlet and Juliet here a while back from Wett Giggles?

Well, Abby discovered yesterday that Juliet actually squeaks, or as she says it "kweeks". She just loves that little duck!

I can not tell you enough how much fun these soaps are for the kids, but you can now find out for yourself!
Karen has offered my readers a 25% discount on all soaps! I know, it's fantastic!
Just use the following code at check-out:  Carvpj09 (case sensitive)

Thanks for this Karen!

If it wasn't for Dora...

Abby's 19 months and a big, big fan of Dora and Boots. I needed to catch up on some sponsors and reviews today and with a 19 month old that's not always easy. So Dora really helped me today.
For me it's not Go Diego, Go, it's Go Dora, Go!!!

I guess taking a pacifier out for a picture wasn't a good idea today?!

Kara, I've send you a mail too.

Thanks from coming by via the Bloggy Giveaways Carnival!

There's nothing more comfortable than to have some nice fitting, cozy slippers on your feet in the evening. Jamie's been asking for a while to review/test something and he really needed slippers so it was his turn.
Satch & Sol has the cutest slippers ever!! I'm not kidding, if Abby hadn't had any already I would have gotten her some slippers from Satch & Sol too!
I absolutely love the Tulip slippers, they are my favorite!

How cute are these little puppies?

Jamie could pick the slippers he wanted and he chose the woolly grey hitch slippers. They arrived beautifully wrapped and Jamie was so excited to open the package!

As soon as he opened the wrapping paper, he couldn't wait to try them on. This is his take on them, and I quote:
"They are really comfortable, they feel really good on my feet. They warm my feet up really fast. I have the best slippers in the house!"

I have to say they are some cool looking slippers!!

A little more about the company Satch & Sol:

Thanks Susan, we're big fans of Satch & Sol!

Bubele boutique

I found out about Bubele boutique via a giveaway over at Peanut butter & pickle
This store is just amazing, they don't only have the cutest blanky ( I love the girls snuggle me blanky), they also have the cutest designs bibs, onesies,...
I've just ordered one of these bibs, the bibs I have all seem to have a gap so food falls in between the bib and Abby's clothes! I love the flowers with pink neck roll bib: the attached neck roll prevents leaking going under chin and clothing. The neck roll, made from poly wicks moisture away from the neck area to help prevent rashes in the extra folds of skin! I'll keep you posted when we've tested this bib!

Also don't forget to check out the specials section, you can get a cute little hat for $4.90!

Kris has generously offered my readers 15% of everything in stock by using the code LATTE at check out ($5 flat rate shipping).
Thanks Kris!!

Boon review: Frog Pod and Flo

As you can read in the earlier review we love Boon in our house.
If there's something Abby really likes to do (besides dancing), it is going in the bath!!! As soon as that water starts running she's there! She loves the bubbles, the toys and when you ask her to swim, she'll go on her belly (the water's not that high) and will swim to the other end of the bath (wow, that makes it sound we have a super long bath tub, it really isn't that big ;)
The problem for me was that after the tub was empty there were all these toys to pick up. I'm not trying to sound lazy, there are just lots of them! I used to have a basket next to the bath where I would put them in, but it took up so much space and the water would leak through the basket on the bathroom floor.
I've been looking for a solution for the bath toys and had put the Frog pod on my Christmas list!  The frog pod is just the greatest solution for all your bath toys. It actually is bigger than what it looks on the site, you can store lots of toys in there! The frog Pod incorporates a wall-mountable shelf for Abby's shampoo and body wash with a removable scoop that you can skim through the water to pick up all the toys in one swoop. Dotted with holes, the scoop lets the water drain out, leaving the toys dry - and mold-free.
It's really super easy to put up, although our adhesive strips didn't hold the frog, it came down after the required time to let it dry. So I ordered the suction cups (I couldn't wait to start using the Frog Pod as soon as possible) and as soon as they arrived, we hung the frog again, and it's been up since.
Now I need to tell you about the excellent customer service Boon has. I had told them about the frog coming down so they send me replacement silicone adhesive strips and screws, which I'm keeping handy. They are so friendly and helpful at Boon!

In addition to the Frog Pod, we also have the Flo in the tub. We've had this for more than a year now and we love it. The Flo diverts the flow of water, creating a gentle waterfall, while it covers the faucet against injury. It also functions as a bubble bath dispenser. Abby loves to press the button for the soap to come out and make bubbles in the waterfall! I think the Flo makes it a lot easier to rinse Abby's hair!

Well, it's not too late to read my other review and enter the Boon saucer giveaway!
Good luck!

I love hummingbirds and Picaflor!!! CONTEST CLOSED AND WINNER ANNOUNCED!

Hi all,

The winner is .....

Sue D. with "I follow!"
Thanks all for reading my blog, I really appreciate it!

Sue, I'm going to send you an email too.

========================================

I love to look for cute clothes for Abby and can't always find what I'm looking for UNTIL I saw Picaflor. I couldn't believe my luck when I came upon this store.
I have to warn you though, not only have they got a great selection for girls, they have a great selection for boys too!

I've had the chance to review the Abigail dress in chocolate/antique aqua and ruffle pants in antique aqua from Picaflor. The names couldn't have been linked any better, an Abigail dress for my Abby.
When I received Abby's outfit I was stunned! The dress with ruffle pants is just fantastic, the quality is really, really good & the finish is great (no loose threads, very well knit and sewn) and I love all the little details.
Abby's dress has little flowers, the ruffle pants has a big flower on the right leg. The details come back in both so they really match! I also love the neckline finish on the dress.

Now for all the moms out there, the outfit (100% rayon) is machine washable in cold water and can be tumble dried on low!!! This is important for me as I have lots of washing to do with 5 in our family. I'm not really waiting for a hand wash! I washed it and...the dress is exactly the same as it was before I put it in the wash, no color fading, shrinking, nothing!

Abby loves her little outfit too!
Well, Abby's ready to go with her outfit! Big thumbs up from all of us on Picaflor!
About Picaflor:

Picaflor (“hummingbird” in Spanish) uses thoughtful fabrics and small-scale production to create a unique collection of daily-wear that is designed for busy little wings. Our comfortable knitwear reflects the beauty and simplicity of children. We believe that children should feel different, and we’ve created an elegant clothing line that is built for adventurous spirits.
Picaflor is headquartered in Portland, Oregon. Founder, Nancy Coronado, tests all the designs on her own children before presenting them to you. Each collection is hand-crafted in Nancy’s home country of Peru. A percentage of profits are directed to charities that benefit children in Peru.

Now, Picaflor has generously offered to give away the Cranberry hoodie and cranberry/pumpkin stripe chunky pant from the FA08 collection in size 12 months!! It's absolutely gorgeous!

For a chance to win this:
Head on over to Picaflor, have a look around at their collections and let me know your favorite.
For a 2nd entry, go to Picaflor, check the storefinder, and let us know if you have a store closeby.
For a 3rd entry, become a follower of "A latte in the morning" and let me know in a separate comment.
The deadline for this giveaway is 01/30/09. The winner will be emailed and announced on this post on Sat. 1/31/09.

Please keep on reading, it's absolutely amazing. I copied the whole press release as I didn't want to leave anything out!

Press release: for immediate release

See Kai Run® Customers Generate Donation of 9,700 Pairs of Shoes through November/December 2008 “Share A Pair” Matching Event

Seattle, WA (January 2009) During this season of giving, See Kai Run, popular manufacturer of the perfect first shoe for new walkers, is making sure that for every pair of shoes sold during November and December 2008 at its retail Web site (www.seekairun.com), a pair also goes to a child in need. As a result of the matching event which ended December 31, 2008, See Kai Run, has donated over 9,700 pairs of shoes to Soles4Souls.

With this donation, See Kai Run will have shared a total of nearly 34,000 pairs of shoes to children who need them the most. “Share A Pair” is part of See Kai Run’s overall charitable giving campaign, which focuses on international, national, and local charities for children.

"Although 2009 will be a difficult year for many of us, we can be grateful that we are able to purchase a comfortable pair of shoes for our own children,” says founder Cause Haun. “We are so happy that through their purchases at seekairun.com, parents across North America were also able to provide a pair of shoes to a deserving child in another part of the world. As always, Soles4Souls makes it incredibly easy to help and we are grateful for that."

I'll be emailing you very soon.

============================================
The New Year has just started (I still can't believe it's already 2009) and I'm already thinking about Valentine.
I'm one of the moms that will help with the Valentine's party in Jamie's classroom this year, I'm very excited!! See, Valentine is a much bigger thing over here than it is in Europe. When I was a kid we never used to celebrate Valentine in school. It just isn't that big in Belgium.
But anyway, talking about Valentine,...

Leigh from Little Darlin' Designs (the winner of my Sima necklace giveaway) send me 4 little individual paintings, together they spell LOVE. They all came wrapped separately and it was fun to open them (but then again, I just love opening presents!).
All 4 paintings are painted in a different design, they are really great! I just love the colors, the size, it really is beautiful!

I have them standing up, but there's the option to hang them on a wall if you want.

As soon as Lisa (my oldest) came home from school she saw them and asked if she could have them in her room. This weekend we're going to hang them up in her room, she is so excited!

Some more info about Little Darlin' Designs:
Leigh, when and why did you start your business?
I started my business this last fall. I love to paint and just started on canvas last year and love it. I started painting and sketching as an outlet for stress since I'm a stay at home mom of 3 under 4. I needed something for me. It makes me feel like I've gotten something accomplished!

What's your favorite painting/design?
Wow, that's a hard one for me......I think each time I do one they get better and then become my favorite. So it constantly changes. Right now I love just doing Names/Initials. I love painting kids names.

What are your plans for the future?
I plan to expand to painting on wood and really focus on painting things that are important for families and their homes. Such as family/childrens names, verses, and meaningful phrases. I think it's important to keep things in your house to remind you what's important in life or what inspires you!

You need to have a look at the website to get an idea of what Leigh does. She makes letters, doorhangers, birth announcements,... You name it, she can make it!!

Juliet from Wett Giggles

A couple of days ago I told you about our experience with Hamlet the frog from Wett Giggles.
Well, I can now add our review of Juliet, the orange scented soap.
Again, Juliet came in a beautiful wrapper with the same color ribbon as Juliet.
As soon as we opened the wrapper you could just smell the fresh scent of orange! It smells really yummie!
The kids love Juliet! Juliet doesn't come with a brush, she's a bath toy and Abby managed to get her out of the soap so she had loads of fun with her. The soap makes your skin so nice and soft, it's really good soap (not just a toy)!

I want to remind you these soaps can be a great gift to give, they are very affordable and hours of fun!!!
See my giveaway here for a chance to win Ophelia, lemon scent (with nail brush) as seen below. Deadline 1/19/09.

rosie cheeks

For the last couple of nights Abby's been waking up crying at night. At least 5 or 6 times in a night. Now I can tell you, if you're not used to that, not good...
Abby's teething and I can't wait till they're all out!

This is a picture from just after her morning nap, nice rosie cheeks!

=============================================================

OK ladies, if you've read my blog for a while, then you know I love See Kai Run and when I would come by a giveaway regarding See Kai Run shoes, I would always let you know on my blog where to go and enter.
Well, now it's my turn!

A little more info on See Kai Run.
In 2002 Cause Haun gave birth to her son Kai. 2 years later her company See Kai Run was born. The company is inspired by the need for comfortable shoes with flexible soles for her son Kai to wear outdoors. Cause Haun wanted to create a line of shoes that was as happening as Kai - bold, hip, fun, with an urban sensibility. The response of parents has been overwhelming!
Twice a year Cause designs a new collection of 15-20 designs. The designs are sophisticated and classic with modern twists sprinkled throughout. Most importantly, the shoes are healthy for developing feet. The soles are made of extremely flexible rubber which is great for outdoor use while allowing the foot to flex in all the right places. They're also made of butter soft leather with a breathable leather lining and padded collars for comfort.
I love finding a cute pair of kids shoes. When I visit See Kai Run that's exactly what I find, amazingly cute shoes for kids, not just cute for girls but boys too. There's Smaller: 0-18 months, See Kai Run: 6 months to 3 years and Eleven: age 3-8 years!

I have had the privilege to review the Julie boots from See Kai Run.
They come in a cute little box!

We chose the Julie with Faux-fur. We were so happy when we received the boots as I couldn't wait to review them. They have a zipper on the side and go on really easy. Cause of the faux-fur, Abby has nice little warm feet.

Abby has little chubby legs so this was a test for us (as not all boots fir her), but no worries though, they fit great!

No, no, Abby's not about to cry
in this picture, it's her saying
CHEEEEESE!!!

Not only are they easy to put on and fit great, we have gotten a lot of positive reactions to them
! Lots of people have actually asked us where we got them from!
Now this is not just me talking here, Abby wants to put these boots on as soon as she wakes up in the morning, she loves to put them on with her PJ's as you can see in the below picture.
