The beach

I went to the beach last weekend with 8 other moms from school and we had a BLAST!
This was the first time for me to be away from my husband and the kids, but it turned out great! We stayed in a house close to the beach in Manzanita (Oregon Coast).
The weather was perfect, the Margarita's even better! We played games, read books, went in the hot tub, walked on the beach and just mainly relaxed.

This is definitely a trip we will do again next year and I can't wait!

Just relaxing

When you read this post, I'm at the beach sipping some cocktails and wine, playing games, reading my book and just relaxing with some other moms from school.
No husbands, no kids,....it's going to be weird (as this will be my first weekend away from them), but after the week I've had, I can use a couple of days.
The kids are looking forward to spending some time with just dad as he's leaving for the Netherlands again on Sunday.
By then I'm ready again, fully charged and ready to rumble!

Talk to you next week. Oh and did I tell you I will be fully charged and going full steam ahead with some great reviews and giveaways.
Have a relaxing weekend!

Update

I'm back in a little bit of a routine. It seems I'm so much more busy with the kids being out of school but every free moment I have, I'm going to write some reviews (or at least I'm going to try). I have so many great reviews and giveaways coming up.
Keep checking back in the next couple of days, there's a lot to come.
Well, I have today and tomorrow morning to write some as I'm going to the beach with some other moms from school. No kids, no husbands, just us moms. I've never done this before but I can't wait.

I'm having some bad luck lately

I haven't been keeping up with my blogging in the last 5 days. You wanne know why? I've had some bad luck today and wasn't feeling very inspired to write reviews.
* bad luck #1:

It all started last Wednesday when in our basement at the bottom of the stairs, our carpet was wet. First thing I did was blame the cat (poor Simba),but unless he has a bladder the size of an elephants we found him to be innocent!  After dapping it up (I needed to go to the store to get some carpet cleaning spray), it was still there so we assumed it wasn't the cat but one of the kids who spilled a drink. Fast forward to the evening, carpet seems to be getting wetter so when Ian came home I wanted to pull back the carpet and see what was going on,........there was a big giant puddle of water under our carpet!

Our water heater had been leaking, so at 10 at night we had a emergency plumber come by and drain the 66 gallon water heater and an appointment was made to get a new water heater put in the next day. He told us we had been lucky as this water heater could have burst any moment (the old thing was 22 years old)  which meant we could have had a small swimming pool down in our basement!
So we've been drying out our basement with the heating on, we used a wet/dry vacuum on the carpet, a fan aimed to the carpet and a de-humidifier and ... it's finally dry.

* bad luck #2:

Fast forward to Sunday, Father's Day. We had a group of people come over and celebrate Father's Day with us. The men could relax and do nothing, just talk, play with the kids, while the women were cooking, BBQ'ing, etc...
It was a lot of fun until..... I came in with a platter of pork chops from the BBQ and hit my pinky toe on the corner of one of my cupboard's doors. Lots of blood as I apparently cut the top of my little toe, put a band aid on and thought that was it.
Well, not exactly, the little thing is broken! Nothing you can do about it really, except don't try and put shoes on, not a good idea. Do you know all in all it might even turn out to be good as my little toe wasn't straight to begin with, maybe this will correct it.
So here I am, luckily my fingers aren't broken, otherwise I would have had a bad time writing this.
I promise I'll snap out of this dark cloud and start my reviews and giveaways again as I've got loads to write about.

On a fun note by the way, I started swimming lessons with Abby. 3 moms and their cute little babies in the water, it's so much fun!
Lisa and Jamie are sitting on the bleachers watching us and Abby loves to shout from the water: "Lisa, Jamie look, Abby swim". It's adorable!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

You'll Flip over this review!

Ok, I'm super excited to write about this Item!
I had the FANTASTIC opportunity to review a Flip Ultra (2nd generation). Reason I'm super excited? Not only is this the coolest thing out there but now I can finally send clips of my kids to my families in Belgium and England. We were send the yellow Flip Ultra, it's so cool! I love the bright color so I can find it easily anywhere!
You start taping with a press of a button and you can zoom in and out if necessary. The taping is so easy and when you're ready to download, you just plug the Flip Ultra in the back of your computer.
We have a Mac, so initially when I downloaded my clips, they downloaded in my iPhoto.  This was because I hadn't installed FlipShare yet. You can theoretically just keep them in iPhoto but I tried sending a clip using iPhoto via email and the size of the email is WAY too big, so you really need to use FlipShare to avoid this problem.

After you download your clips in FlipShare, you can select the clips you want to send and then send them via email, or post them to MySpace or YouTube. There's even an option to send video  greeting cards but I haven't tried that option yet.

The quality of the videos are great, see one of the videos I made of my kids:

Oh and Abby LOVES ribs as you can see below!

You'll see plenty more clips from my family in the future and even some reviews will get clips in the future!
If you're in doubt about getting one for yourself I can only say go for it. No need to read giant manuals, it's really easy to use.
Thanks Flip for letting me do this review!

Last Day for the birthday bash giveaway

Just discovered this giveaway (t little too late). Head one over to Tip Junkie for the birthday Bash giveaway!

What I learned today and want to share with you.

I like to have my toilets clean and with 3 kids in the house that's not always easy but I learned something today. Trying to have it too clean isn't a good idea either.

I normally have a Clorox toilet bowl cleaner in the tank and although I still need to scrub the bowl once in a while it keeps it cleaner for a longer time.
A couple of months ago I tried the Homelife blue automatic toilet bowl cleaner and I LOVE this even more as it keeps your toilet bowl water blue so it looks like the water's fresher (or at least it looks like that to me).
I got some more tablets 2 weeks ago but I still had the chlorine tablets in the tank and didn't want to waste them so I dropped the blue tablet in there too.
What do you think I'm going to say? Big no no.
These tablets react and the bleach was actually trying to take the color out of the blue and stop it from working! The result, today I decided to tackle the tanks, take out all the tablets, but the problem with the blue tablet is that it's partly dissolved and it just dissolved further in my hand. Result, I have a light blue stain on my hand, it looks great! NOT.
I know, I should have used gloves, but that's just a hassle.
For the other tanks I used an old spoon, cleaned them all out, and used new blue tablets, so we're all good to go again.

I know what you're thinking, how can you talk so long about toilet tanks?
Hey, just wanted to share some cleaning disaster with you all. I'm sure there's more moms out there that use toilet bowl cleaners, consider yourself warned about mixing them up.

Bad memories, but a good ending in the end

Can you remember when you started riding your bike?
Well, I certainly can! My dad taught me how to ride my bike and he must have been running and running behind my bike for ours! I remember him saying "go Ann, I'm not going to let you go", "we're doing this together".
That was the good memory I have, cause he didn't let me go and he never gave up until I took off by myself.
Now for the bad memory, when I was finally able to ride my bike and getting very confident in it, I crashed into a metal fence. Actually my handle bar got stuck in it and I fell and I scraped every piece of skin off my nose.
Oh, and did I tell you the next day it was my great-grandma's wedding anniversary? My nose was in every picture, or at least the lack of it!

I hope you have better memories. Go check out the giveaway over @ 5 minutes for mom for a chance to win a Strider running bike!

Maybe I should have had one of these when I started learning?

And this is CDZIUBA, I've sent you an email to confirm.
===========================================
As you can tell by the name of my blog, I LOVE coffee! I probably drink way too much of it but there's nothing else better then to get up in the morning to the smell of freshly brewed coffee. Well, I have to admit, I don't just drink it in the morning.

So imagine how happy I was when I was asked by Sauvie Island Coffee if I would love to sample some of their coffee! Not only was I excited about reviewing the coffee, Sauvie Island is actually pretty close to where I live!

About Sauvie Island Coffee:
Sauvie Island Coffee is a family owned and operated boutique coffee roaster that specializes in the finest handcrafted beans found anywhere. They are part of a large farming community and welcome visitors to enjoy the fruits of their labor at any of the Farmer's markets there.
Their family's farm has raised goats, miniature donkeys, horses and dogs. The largest part of the farm is used to grow corn, peas, wheat and fescue.
Due to the Oregon climate you won't find anyone on Sauvie Island growing coffee beans... but that doesn't mean the finest coffee beans can't be imported and roasted there!

I was send the Sumatra and Sumatra decaf, the Guatamalan Maya Ixil, the Ethiopian Harrar
& the espresso to review.
The first thing I have to tell you is that when Dan "our mailman" dropped off the box, he said he almost didn't want to drop it off as the smell coming from the box was so good and he wanted that box to stay in his van for a while longer.
I'm not kidding you, it was pure coffee heaven! The coffee is packed in their very new fully biodegradable natural kraft paper bags, very cool!
I have 2 coffee machines at home: a Phillips Senseo machine (great coffee, really easy to use as it's a pod-holder and you just press the button for your cup.) and a coffee machine you can program, this is what I did with this coffee, I filled it at night and programmed it for the next morning. I just love to get up in the morning (not too early mind you) with a cup of freshly brewed coffee to kick-start my day.

Some more info on the coffees from the website:
* Ethiopian Harrar: From Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee, we offer Harrar Longberry. Grown between 1500 & 2200 meters this coffee promises sweet blueberry notes, luscious body, and a smooth mocha like finish.
* Organic Sumatra: Sumatra Mandheling Organic. Earthy, robust, and full-bodied in nature. Love a heavy nutty cup of coffee? This one is for you.
* Organic Sumatra Decaf: Sumatra Organic Swiss Water Process Decaffeinated. A flavor so full, you won’t believe its decaf.
* Guatamalan "Maya Ixil": Members of the Maya Ixil coffee cooperative have substantially increased their income, improved living conditions and have increased school enrollment, since becoming Fair Trade Certified. Members are dedicated to conserving natural resources. Their beans are grown organically under native shade trees at 3900 – 5200’. In addition, this year the co-op joined the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center ‘s bird friendly ®coffee program. In this sustainable cup you will experience a hint of fruit in the fragrance, a bit of spice, and sweet with moderate and balanced acidity.
* Espresso: A perfect balance of sweet fruit, cocoa and soft nuttiness with a clean bright finish that make a delectable straight shot.

My 2 favorites are the Espresso and the Sumatra and I have to say I'm trying to drink more decaf in the afternoon so I can actually fall asleep at night and this decaf coffee is excellent!

Check here if you want to find out more about the roasting process and if you want to stay updated, please go check out their blog here.

Eternal Creation: review

I'm always on the look-out for cute dresses for Abby and I found a store that has amazing clothes not just for girls, but also boys and women. This is not just a lovely store, it comes with a history and a very bright future! This store means a lot to a lot of people!

About Eternal Creation: taken directly from the site as I didn't want to leave out any important info. I tried to write it in my own words but it just doesn't do it justice so here's the whole story.

After graduating from the East Sydney institute of fashion design in 1994, designer Frances Carrington registered with Australian Volunteers Abroad, hoping to use her skills in a community in Africa. Instead she was sent to India. She was put in charge of the fledgling tailoring department of the Norbulingka Institute in Dharamsala, home of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Government in exile. Her job was to teach newly arrived Tibetan refugees the finer points of tailoring and design. She oversaw the growth of the department from 2 to 15 fulltime staff by the end of her stay.

Falling in love with Indian and Tibetan culture, not to mention the fantastic landscape of the Himalayas, she determined that at the end of her tenure she'd find a way to use her skills to continue to benefit the local community in some way. In 1999, armed with a $5000 loan from her father she started Eternal Creation, with the aim of producing quality womens' sleepwear and accessories.

The early days were difficult. Frances started with only 3 tailors, in association with the Gu-Chu-Sum movement of Tibet, an ex-political-prisoners' organisation based in McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala. Gu-Chu-Sum's 200-plus members are all former prisoners of conscience, some of whom have endured terrible privation and torture at the hands of the Chinese authorities. The organisation is dedicated to improving the lives of recently arrived political refugees by providing jobs, training, health care and accommodation.

The small tailoring unit slowly grew, employing several ex-prisoners and battling with fierce monsoons, water shortages and frequent blackouts, often simultaneously! One of the biggest challenges was training people who had previously led a pastoral or nomadic existence, to understand the concept of delivery deadlines and international quality standards.

With the birth of her 2 children, Frances found herself naturally gravitating towards designing children's clothes, and sales of her initial childrens' collection quickly proved that there was a market for her classical look, love of colour and immaculate tailoring.

As the sales of Eternal products grew in Australia, the company was faced with a difficult decision - outsource or expand? Outsourcing would bring with it the ethical dilemma faced by many designers: how do you know your designs are being made under fair labour conditions and not subcontracted to other factories that may not meet these standards?

Frances felt that outsourcing production would ultimately end up betraying the original reasons she started the company. So she decided to increase the capacity of the workshop, which would provide more jobs for the local Tibetan and Indian community as well as ensuring that Eternal Creation's trademark high quality standards were maintained. In 2005, Eternal Creation opened the Himalaya Tailoring Centre in lower Dharamsala, and today is one of the largest private employers in the area. Eternal Creation products are sold in over 200 stores in Australia, Europe and Asia.

Eternal Creation has the most beautiful fabrics, designs and colors I've seen, the dresses are all gorgeous and flowy.
I was send not one but 2 dresses to review with matching hair clips! I was send the Toulouse dress (red) and the Annabelle dress (light blue).
These dresses weren't just send in a box. No, they came in a canvas bag, sealed with wax seals, this was an experience in its own!
When I opened the bag I couldn't believe how vibrant the colors and how beautiful the dresses were, very well tailored! I also know after reading all the info on the website that these dresses are made with a lot of attention and care by a lot of people.

What I also love about Eternal Creation is their inter-active website.
You want to know what the inside of the workshop looks like, what the cutting or sampling department looks like (and more departments for that matter)?
Well, you can! Eternal Creation has a map of the whole workshop and you can click on any department you want to learn more about. They even have a creche for their employees, a free children's creche run by Dolma (a 35 year old mom with 2 daughter's who's been through a lot but is now happy to be in Dharamsala).

Here are some pictures of the dresses I was send, aren't they gorgeous?

What's also great about Eternal Creation is that you can meet the tailors, well not in person that is, but each tailor is featured on the website (see here)
I think Eternal Creation has a very informative website on the history of Dharamsala and Tibet, just head on over and go read and learn. I can guarantee you, you will be on the site for a while!

I can not end this review with some images!
From Autumn/Winter:

There's a lot more cute outfits for boys and girls and don't forget to check out the women's department! Bags, scarves, tops, skirts, kimono's and a lot more!

Thanks Frances for sending me these absolutely amazing  dresses and giving me a chance to write about Eternal Creation!
